Day 11 - April 16th
SHERBORNE
100 Mile Home Based Static Cycle Ride
I have a stand at The Sherborne Independent Market on this day and am needing to be set up by 9am. The stand is to have literally hundreds of new toys that have been kindly donated by The Games Pod, Sherborne. Sadly, the Pod and online shop have ceased trading, but many box loads of their toys and games have already been taken [or are about to be taken] to Yewstock Special School in Sturminster Newton, to families in need in the Sherborne and Yeovil area, to Dorchester Opportunity Group, to Blandford Opportunity Group, and to Yeovil Opportunity Group.
The 3 Opportunity Groups, along with the Taunton Group, are specialist pre school groups which support young babies/children with complex needs.
The toys and games on my stand will range from 50p upwards, but a fraction of the price that they usually retail at. Do come along and see me in Pageant Gardens opposite the train station and put some change in the buckets/buy a toy.
I always also have free toys, games, books for the children and young people to rummage through. They often have very limited pocket money if at all, and it is a great way to engage with parents and carers. In the past, children have used this area of the stand as a play area, giving their families a much needed break to have a coffee [or something stronger!] or to enjoy the scrumptious multi cultural dishes that are on sale in the gardens. Music is played/performed from the bandstand from 10 am until 3pm when the market is open, and so it really does lead to a relaxing lunchtime away from the main market which fills our streets with wonderful gifts.
